Kissimmee, FL Fence Pressure Wash Cleaning Service

Over time, as with almost all surfaces it is inevitable that dirt, mold, and mildew will accumulate on fences as well as it does on roofs, driveways, patio screen enclosures, and exterior surfaces of homes and buildings. In Florida, most fences are vinyl fences and these too, although being a nonporous surface grow mold and mildew, even lichen if left long enough on the surface. Some homes have really long fences that can be quite a task to clean and if you have every tried scrubbing mold off of a fence, you know that is not happening. Mold and mildew that clings to the surface needs to be killed as it is organic in nature and thus why it grows if left untouched.

The unfortunate part of dirty fences is that they are noticeable from even far away. A dirty fence left in that condition can make the home look abandoned and uncared for and a cleaned, fresh fence can add value and increase curb appearance from far away. The fortunate part to cleaning fences is that it typically takes some time for them to get grow mold and mildew once again.

Professional Vinyl Fence Pressure Cleaning

Cleaning vinyl fences can be a bit easier as they are nonporous and are more resistant to chemicals when compared to wood fences. You can pressure wash vinyl fences with high pressure but professionally, they would be cleaned with a mold-killing agent that destroys the organic material, loosens it from the surface, and rinses it away.

Sometimes the upper parts of some vinyl fences with the criss cross patterns are textured and give mold a surface to grip to and so require stronger concentrations of chemicals to kill and remove from these areas. Mold and dirt are not the only elements that can stick to or stain a vinyl fence. Rust stains can also form on vinyl fences which can from splashing dirt or sprinkler systems that have strong iron content in the water. In this case, a specific chemical would have to be used to remove the rust stains from the vinyl as no amount of scrubbing nor pressure will remove these stains.

Kissimmee, FL Wood Fence Cleaning Service

Wood fences require more care in order to clean when compared to vinyl fences. Prior to cleaning, the condition of the wood has to be considered. If it is a newer fence or if it is stained, the approach to cleaning may be different. In any case, wood should never be cleaned with high pressure. High water pressure will feather the wood fibers leaving a rough appearance and feeling when rubbed and also create gouges and etching into the wood that cannot be fixed. Similar to vinyl fences, wood fences are cleaned chemically to remove the same mold and mildew that grows on vinyl fences but because the wood is porous the mold grows deeper into the surface and requires higher concentrations of the mold-killing agents.

However, these chemicals are less aggressive as they are meant for wood. After the cleaning chemicals have been applied, they should be allowed to dwell and then followed up by a safe pressure rinse to remove the chemicals and the dirt and mold that has been loosened. Professionals will often apply an acid to the wood fence once it has been cleaned which brings out its natural deep colors. Once the fence is cleaned completely and has fully dried over at least a few days if not longer then a stain can be added if desired.

Our Fence Pressure Cleaning Process

Our process for cleaning fences depends on material and condition. For example, if a wood fence is very worn down or the has failing and chipping paint we would be more careful when rinsing our cleaning solutions off. In either case, we look at the condition of the fence in the case any parts are broken, weak, or failing. It is worth mentioning that in all cases, we use a method more known in the industry as “soft washing” which simply means light pressure product application and rinsing where no high pressure is used. After assessing the fence, we rinse the fence and surrounding grass to prevent any damage to plant life. We then apply our cleaning solution liberally and let the solution dwell on the fence surface which will destroy the mold and mildew attached to the fence and allow it to be more easily removed with a medium pressure rinse. If the fence is a wooden fence, we also apply a follow-up acid that brings out the grain and natural color of the wood and is used often in the wood restoration industry.

Rust Stain Removal For Fences

Sometimes, sprinkler systems that utilize water sources with high iron or mineral content can leave very visible rust and iron stains that cannot be removed with scrubbing or high water pressure. These stains are normally a bronze or brown color and are usually easily distinguishable. In these cases, we use a rust removing agent to make these stains disappear and bring your fence back to life.

Frequently Asked Questions

People Also Ask:

You should not pressure wash a wooden fence. Pressure will damage the wood and can leave carved lines and furred wood. A safe pressure can be used when rinsing to remove dirt and mold but a mold-killing chemical should be used to clean
a wooden fence.

You should definitely properly clean your fence before staining it. If not, you will be sealing up dirt and mold in the wood which which is never the proper way to paint a surface and it could cause the stain not hold well. Preperation is the key to painting or coating a surface properly.

To clean fence without pressure chemicals will be needed that kill mold; either aggressive or more natural and safe products can be used crubbing may be required prior to rinsing with a hose in some cases.

Prior to staining a fence, all organic matter growing on and in the wood should be removed. It should also be completely dried. There may be some sealants or prep chemicals that could be used that may allow the stain to take hold better.
